Happy New Year! I hope that your 2009 is filled with peace, health and happiness.
I can’t believe that Christmas is over and we’re into a new year again already. I don’t think I’ve ever been quite so disorganised… it’s not like Christmas is a surprise, or even that it sneaks up on you, but it all came together in the end… I managed to make all the cards I needed to send to “crafty” friends, but forgot to scan any of them, so I don’t have any photos to show.
The tree finally went up – complete with Christmas Cookies which made the room smell lovely (bought at a craft fair, not made, but I might have a go next year!)
The small tree in the dining room took up its place along with my little felted pixie from the book “Pixie Felt” by
Birgitte Krag Hansen.
One of these days I’ll make him some more little pixie friends, but right now Santa is keeping him company.
My partner cooked a dairy and wheat-free Christmas dinner which was a huge success with everyone, and Christmas presents concentrated on quality rather than quantity.
Amongst my presents was the book “Bright Flowers” about the textiles and ceramics of
Central Asia.
I went to see the “Colours of the Silk Road” exhibition of Suzani embroideries at the
Burrell Collection in
Glasgow which is featured in Stitch magazine No.56 which was stunning.
Photos just don’t do the work justice – either the colours or the stitching involved, so I was delighted to get this book and find out a bit more.
The Burrell Collection as a whole was a bit of a revelation to me – I’d always meant to go, but as it’s situated in a country park outside the centre of
Glasgow, I’d never quite made it, but it’s definitely worth making the journey for – they have some beautiful stumpwork and tapestries.
I’m going to try to keep an eye out for a few more exhibitions this year.
Speaking of exhibitions, the
Cyber Fiber exhibition is online now – this is an international fiber arts event at Gallery 80808/Vista Studios,
808 Lady Street in downtown
Columbia, South Carolina, from January 8th to 20th, 2009. The focus of this exhibition is to highlight the influences of Internet access for today's fiber artists.
There’s lots to look at and links to blogs of everyone who traded a postcard or ATC (mine is on there too!).
